Cookie Policy
This describes the site exactly as currently built. If you add analytics, embedded video or advertising pixels, this page must be updated before they go live.
The short version
Two strictly necessary cookies so forms and the assistant work, and Google Analytics only if you agree to it. No advertising cookies and no advertising features, ever. If you choose “Essential only”, Google Analytics is never loaded — not loaded and blocked, but never requested at all.
Cookies
Both are strictly necessary, which under the UK's cookie rules means they do not require your consent — the site cannot function without them.
| Name | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
| csrftoken | Security. Stops another website submitting our forms using your browser. | 1 year |
| sessionid | Set only when you use the AI assistant, so it can follow your conversation across messages. | Until you close the browser |
Analytics — only with your agreement
We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages people read and roughly where they arrive from. It tells us whether the glossary is useful and whether anyone reaches the contact page. It is not used for advertising, and Google's advertising features and personalisation signals are explicitly switched off.
Nothing loads until you agree. The Google Analytics script is not in the page, and no request is made to Google, unless you have chosen “That's fine” on the cookie notice. If you decline, or simply ignore the notice, analytics never runs.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes one visitor from another, so a returning reader is not counted twice | 2 years |
| _ga_<id> | Google Analytics | Keeps track of the current visit | 2 years |
Your IP address is anonymised before Google stores it. Google acts as our data processor for this. Their own privacy notice explains what they do with it.
Changing your mind removes them. Choose “Essential only”
and we delete the _ga cookies and stop analytics immediately —
no page reload needed.
Stored in your browser, not sent to us
| Name | Type | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| pq-consent | Local storage | Remembers your choice on the cookie notice so we stop asking | Until you clear it |
| pq-country | Local storage | Remembers the country you picked on the cost calculator | Until you clear it |
| pq-score | Local storage | Remembers your readiness-check answers so they survive a refresh | Until you clear it |
All three are local storage entries, not cookies. Unlike cookies they are never sent to our server with your requests, and we have no way of reading them. They exist only in your browser.
Third parties
- Google Fonts. Typefaces load from Google's servers. That request sends your IP address and browser details to Google. It sets no cookie, but it is a connection to a third party and you should know about it.
- Microsoft Azure OpenAI. Only if you use the AI assistant. What you type is sent to Microsoft to generate a reply. No cookie is set on your browser by them.
- Google Analytics. Only if you agreed on the cookie notice. Covered in full above.
- Our host. [HOSTING PROVIDER] keeps standard server logs for security and diagnostics.
Turning things off
The two strictly necessary cookies cannot be switched off — blocking them breaks the forms and the assistant, but nothing else. Analytics is entirely your choice and off unless you opted in. If you choose “Essential only”, we still store that preference; that entry is what stops us asking again.
You can clear everything this site has stored at any time through your browser's settings for site data. Doing so resets the tools to their defaults and means we will ask about cookies again.
